This is really hard for me to type
I'm so heart broken right now
Last Sunday I noticed Chiku was having problems going poo so right away I called Mark.
Our suspicions were correct she had an egg in her. I confirmed this at the vet the next day.
Just to be on the safe side the vet gave her a shot of calcium. She saw no issues and expected she would lay the egg in the next few days. I decided if she didn't by Friday I would return to the vet. Friday morning the egg had turned and was much closer to the vent so I assumed we would have an egg that day or at the latest Saturday. By Sunday still no egg and back to the vet on Monday. From Sunday morning til Monday morning she had gone down hill fast. I spent the entire day with her at the vet on Monday. Dr. Tucker knowing the complications that can occur with Greys and anesthetic decided to give her fluids and hormone treatment to aid in her laying. After an hour we could actually see the egg but still it just wouldn't come out. He then gave her more calcium in hopes this would be enough but she just couldn't do it. Finally he had to surgically remove it. There were 2 eggs in her. She made it through the surgery and when she was stable I drove her back to Mark and Lisa where they could keep her in an incubator and hand feed. She did really good until yesterday afternoon. Then what we feared happened. Her kidneys failed on her and she became lethargic. Mark and Lisa stayed with for the next 2 hours until she passed.
I miss that little sweetheart so so much.
Dr. Tucker said he thought there must be some underlying problem with her kidneys before she produced the egg. Its just not normal for a grey not to be able to lay normally and the extra stress on her kidneys was just too much for her.
