Callie graciously supplied a poop sample on the floor of the exam room, and then they took her in for blood work. They couldn't feel an obvious egg inside of her and wanted to do an ultrasound to not only check for her being egg-bound, but to look at the rest of her organs as well. Unfortunately, the ultrasound department was booked solid and may not be able to see her until tomorrow morning. She's spending the night there for observation and to be available as soon as the ultrasound machine is.

Callie's at Cornell
She's had watery poops the past couple of days, and last night she was having trouble climbing and perching. She was shivering and went into hormonal spasms without any outside stimulus. This morning she was napping a lot, eating less, and still shivering. So, we took her down to Cornell. She slept on my lap almost the whole way -- not at all like her. When I try to travel with her on her harness, she's climbing all over the inside of the car, trying to perch on the back of the seat, bugging the driver, etc.

Re: Callie's at Cornell
All her lab tests were unremarkable except for an elevated number of stress white cells, which would make sense. The ultrasound didn't show an egg stuck somewhere in the pathway, so that's good, but the vet couldn't find her ovary so they have to wait until the ovary expert (no, I'm not kidding) comes in this afternoon. They think the ovary might be inflamed, so this afternoon they may have to scope/biopsy it. After that, I don't know what's going to happen. She's still not eating, but then she's in a strange place.

I'm sure they will hand feed her if they feel it necessary. Positive thoughts and lots of hugs being sent from me to you both.

Re: Callie's at Cornell
They have been hand-feeding her, and now she hates everyone, according to the student who calls me twice a day! The first poop samples were too dilute, so I pressed them to test another sample. They did, and found gram-negative bacteria. So, I told them to hold off on the ovary scope/biopsy and let's see if it's just the infection causing her misery. I think that's all it is, personally. No sense in putting her through more than we need to. Anyway, she's coming home today! We're leaving in a few minutes to pick her up! Can't wait to see my little girl and get some wonderful noise back in this house!

Re: Callie's at Cornell
She started out hugging and kissing everybody, but I guess she got tired of them sticking a tube in her mouth every time they came near her! She lost 30g, so the vet told us to give her whatever she wants for a few days to put some weight on her. I don't think it's going to be a problem -- she jumped into her cage and hasn't stopped eating since we got home! I think we're going to have to re-fill her dish!

They really like to eat where they feel most comfortable. She probably was worried Mommy wasn't going to come back

Re: Callie's at Cornell
That's what I figured, so I said I'd bring her home to recuperate. So -- when they tell you to give them 1.3mg of medicine, it's to make sure the actual dose of 0.1mg gets in to them, right? I'm going to need to steam-clean my recliner!

Re: Callie's at Cornell
I towel and put in the side of the beak so they don't bite it.
Good luck with that

She figured out that if she hangs her head, the medicine dribbles out of her beak.

Re: Callie's at Cornell
It's supposed to be fruit flavored. Even smells like banana, which she loves! I'm just afraid to mix it with something, because then the dosage will be even less accurate, since she's known to throw her food and stomp in her drink. I'll just carry on. Only eight more days.

She's getting better at taking it. I'd say she gets 0.9mg out of 1.3mg now.

Well that's close.
We have Baby on meds here. He had stretchy poop but nothing showed in the test Dr. T did. Just for precautionary measures we are mixing in some thrive and amoxitex.
