Okay, I don't why I was thinking about this, but I thought I'd just see how everyone else feels. For my Canadian friends -- do you now or have you ever really considered the United States to be a "foreign country?" And for my friends in the States, same question about Canada? I never did, and now it seems really goofy to have to pull out my passport to cross that invisible line known as a border. Thoughts?

No, I never thought of it as a 'foreign country'. More of 'neighbors to the south'

I was gonna say the same thing, Andrea (except y'all are North) Mainly because we speak the same language (mostly). Mexico, on the other hand, foreign country b/c I'd have to learn another language (I like French! Spanish sucks in my opinion lol)

I never did either but from experience I can tell you it's harder for an American to come and live here. Took my daughter inlaw YEARS before she got her status. It's just not right

Re: "Talk among yourselves"
Being fairly close to the border (90 mins) we used to pop across often to do a little shopping and have lunch. When they changed the rules and made it so we had to have a passport, we stopped going, as we are not big travellers and did not have passports. Have to say we missed it a lot.
This past year we decided to bite the bullet and get passports to have a holiday in Florida, so we are able to pop back and forth again.
I have many online friends from the United States that I have met on other sites that I spend time on and have never thought of them as foreigners, but I do get a giggle sometimes out of the difference of accents.... (I of course do not have one! )

Well, there's that Gail -- and there's also the spelling diffences. My friend was aghast on one trip because they spelled the word "storey" wrong on a big billboard (giggle). I had to explain that in Canada some words use the British spelling. And yeah -- I hate having to use a passport. You're like another "state" to the north, or we're like another "province" to the south.
