Merry Christmas Eve!!! I seemed to have gotten a Christmas present early this year. I'm visiting my parents right now, so Sylvia's getting to stay with Sonshine and Tripod with Cricket. This ended up turning interesting today.
Sonshine has a problem. Whenever my brother brings over his dog (Hatchet), Sonshine freaks out and plucks. (This is what happened as a result of Hatchet's last visit)
So we separated all of the birds (Sonshine, Sylvia, Bill & Coo) to the computer room and put a gate up so the dogs wouldn't disturb them.
Well, this morning, I decided "I want to go on the computer!", so off I went into the computer room, forgetting to close the gate behind me. Tripod and Cricket came into the room. Tripod laid down pretty much next to the door, and Cricket decided she wanted to investigate Sylvia's cage. I heard what I thought to be Sylvia trying to bite Cricket through the cage and then a lot of jumping from the dogs. I started to get irritated, thinking the dogs were playing. I turned around and lo and behold, Sylvia was charging-open beak- at Tripod! Apparently, Sylvia had escaped from her cage (she opened one of the food doors) because she didn't want to be sniffed at by Cricket. She proceeded to charge at both dogs, claiming her territory and scaring both Tripod and Cricket. I luckily looked in time to see her charging Tripod and watched Tripod jump backwards-hopefully in fear and not in play.
I immediately scooped up Sylvia, checked her for injuries then shoved her back into her cage-turning it so she now cannot get out by any means. Then I checked the dogs. Both Tripod and Cricket were lucky not to get bitten by Sylvia. They were just scared. Now they won't come in this room because it's being protected by the little green thing.
Suffice to say, I'm extremely glad that neither dog decided to use Sylvia as a chew toy (this exact situation was the one thing that I've been worrying about since we adopted Tripod), and I'm glad that Sylvia didn't bite either dog. I'm considering it my early Christmas present.
